Dave's Date   posted 13/03/2007

Some people visit our site and then go again. Others visit our site and leave us a message...
A couple of months ago we received an interesting message from New York based Russian independent film maker Natasha Guruleva (AccentWorksProductions). Surfing as you do, looking for some music to use as a sound track for her new film ‘Dave’s Date’ she came across us and asked us if we’d be interested in letting her use some of the 14 Days songs in the film. She sent us a copy of the film; we watched it and said ‘Would be a pleasure!
The uncanny thing is, lyrically it’s almost as if 14 Days was written purposefully for ‘Dave’s Date’ and in the final version, 12 of the 13 songs are featured.
Here’s how Natasha describes her new film...‘’ If you learn about life in the US from the popular films you would think that people live in mansions and have a perpetual excitement of burning property, explosions, Cinderella-happiness and fights against cruel plots of evil guys of all sorts – from common folks from the neighbourhood to extraterrestrials. You would think that the local river is filled with blood and streets are trampled by courageous loving heroes.
When I came to New York years ago I've discovered that none of it is true. I've got stuck in the corner of isolation and solitude. And I know that I am not alone. - Well, in my corner I am. But in such a position I am not.
Actually, I see the country of my residence as a land of zillions of corners. Some are stuffed with goals and achievements, some with ideas and intentions, some with stuff and furniture, some have no space for anything but the body. And breaking out of my corner in search of a "one-of-a-feather" flock, be it real or virtual, became my never-ending motivation for life-continuum.
But since I know the world of isolation and desire to escape it so well, it became one of the major subjects of my stories: "Russian Bride", "Chasing a Butterfly", "Mr. Brown", "Cousins". And telling my stories became a way to find connection to the "flock", the place of belonging and meaning of existence.
"Dave's Date" is also a story where main character, cornered in a solitude and darkness of his basement-apartment, has to face the fact of his suffocation and find the way out. He knows a path to the place where he can breathe comfortably - it’s the nature. But the need to connect with a human soul is not met. The film tells about Dave's attempt to brake out of his loneliness. There is more to it but it's hard to be a critic of your own work. I would rather leave it to the audience.

New year news   posted 03/01/2007

New year then!... New disasters, new problems, new scandals.
My new years resolution? To be even more optimistic than last year! Ahhh…It's not all bad.
There'll be loads of new stuff for us to all go out and buy. Obviously most off it'll be the same old shite we didn't need last year, but slightly different so we open up our wallets yet again. Sorry, did I say ‘optimistic'? I meant ‘cynical'!
Anyway, the Plunkett vibe is moving steadily onwards and upwards. Visits are more and more frequent from all over the globe and we're starting to sell our album, so thanks to everyone who's played us on their radio, written a review and a very special thanks to those of you who have bought '14 Days'!
The next album's coming along nicely by the way. We're up to 8 songs. I'll give you a taster of what it's all about soon, so be patient.
In the meantime Happy New Year and stay tuned!

Welcome  posted 20/11/2006
So, here it is... The official ‘Plunkett' website up and running nearly a year after we finished the '14 Days' album.
Why did it take so long?' we hear you ask.
Well, at first, we were just happy sharing it with family, friends and anyone else we came in contact with who seemed mildly interested… And we had a lot of good comments about the music we'd made.
We toyed over the idea of sending it off to some labels, but in the end for reasons explained elsewhere in the site, we decided not to... But at the same time it'd be nice if more people had the opportunity to hear us.
Answer… The internet. Problem... getting people to visit our site, but as we started looking into the problem we became more and more aware of how good the ‘concept' of it all is even if the reality has yet to be proven.
But we believe it will be. If not for us, then other like minded artists.
We're free! We can make the music we want without worrying about if it's ‘in' or fits to a certain ‘category'.
We can decide what we want to do and don't want to do.
No obligations to tour, promote or produce something new every 2 or so years... even if we hope to produce new material as soon as possible, the point is, it's our choice!
What we can offer is though regarding recorded material is the same as what we've been offered since the musical revolution of the ‘60's. A song, 40mins, 45mins, an hour, whatever you want, of music. If we want distributed for free, if not at a low price.
Ok, perhaps the audio quality won't be quite up to the highly produced sounds we're treated to nowadays, but there's more to good music than production right? The Beatles best stuff was recorded on 4 tracks!
It's come to our attention that there are thousands of ‘web radio stations' out there of whom some have played and others will be shortly playing our music. The almost ‘closed shop' of the airways has been opened via internet.
Obviously, you'll never reach the masses as the traditional stations do, but we really want to believe that there are a lot of people who want to listen to music they'd never get to hear on the wireless or see on MTV.
We should say at this point, there's still a lot of good stuff presented to the masses, but an awful lot doesn't go further than small circles of ‘fans'.
Our point? If we wanted to paint a really cynical picture of the future when all music available to the masses at 20 Euro a CD is banal, people who make music because it's art and believe that art is the only reason for doing it will hopefully have a place to be heard… So spread the word!
